Gretchen is my Candy White 2004 Golf GLS TDI, which will serve as my so-called "beater car" while I focus my modifying/tuning efforts on my designated "play car", Dieter.
She's got the new "PD" (a.k.a. "Pumpe-Düse") engine, which is a 1.9l turbodiesel, rated at 100HP @ 4000rpm and 177lbs-ft of torque from 1800-2400rpm. While it's not exactly the screamer my R32 is, it moves Gretchen around pretty well--that torque down low really helps.
This is my first diesel car, so I'm quite ignorant about many aspects relating to the TDI engine. If you came here looking for experience, guidance, and wisdom, you are doomed to be disappointed. However, I strongly recommend you check out the TDI Club web site, as those folks have all those qualities and then some. That's where I'll be going to learn more about what I've gotten myself into. :)
Gretchen will remain essentially stock, so don't expect this page to change a whole lot. In the meantime, here are some pictures of her:
